"Dilip Kumar's style is so well-defined by his acting that you never have to ask what he is thinking, you just know from the way he walks, dresses and interacts with characters around him." This statement sets up the premise of Bhag Jayegi (Hindi for "The Thief"), considered one of the most perfect comedies ever made. This movie does an amazing job of portraying Indian culture through its humor. The dialogue is crisp and witty; there are exciting twists and turns; it will make you laugh out loud without letting tears overflow your eyes; and finally it will leave you feeling satisfied with what happens at the end. Bahg Jayegi isn't too long or too short. It is a genius, a masterpiece – a comedy with brains and brawn. As your guide, let me introduce you to the central characters of Bhag Jayegi: Bhaggu (playing himself): This guy is Bhaggu Kumar Patel. He is an accomplished thief who had successfully stolen jewels from some of the richest families in India. However, he had made too many mistakes and was caught by some good cop bad cop duo (the movie's main villains). So now as part of his punishment he has to play the role of a petty thief who tries to steal the money from an honest citizen. He is a very nice man who has a history of being honorable. In other words, he is a good guy who always does the right thing. Let me give you some examples: He has just been caught stealing from the rich by the police and he could easily escape from jail but chooses not to do so. When he is presented with an opportunity to just sneak away from jail and not tell anyone…he doesn't. It's like this: If you notice in the movie there is a scene where Bhaggu (the character) steals an expensive necklace and gives it to his bride-to-be (Pinky) as a wedding gift even though he knows Pinky doesn't want it…. the reason for this is because Bhaggu knows that the owner of the necklace has a ton of money and he could have just stolen it from her. But even though he could have easily taken advantage of Pinky's naivety, he chooses not to do so because he isn't a bad guy at heart. Bhaggu's Punishment: During his punishment period, Bhaggu must break the sacred bond between a husband and wife by separating Ali from Pinky. In other words, Bhaggu must divorce Pinky in order to successfully complete his sentence and be a free man again. Pinky: This is Bhaggu's wife in real life. She is a very naive girl who believes in true love, true friendship, true love and true happiness. She believes that her dream of marrying the man she truly loves will come true one day. Pinky knows that Bhaggu stole to pay for her wedding but doesn't know how he did it. Pinky is in love with Ali. She doesn't believe that Ali would have lied to her about stealing money online…but then again…she has also been lied to by men before! Ali: He is a young man in his early to mid-twenties who lives alone in his village.
